In episode 2 of Back Again on boyzonetour.tv, Michael says:
Er, I couldn't wait to be
finished with Boyzone at that time, I felt emotionally drained
and exhausted, physically also. As well, with all the hard work that we had done for so many years. And also
because musically and creatively I didn't get the opportunities that
I would have liked to throughout the years of Boyzone so I struggled with
that an awful lot too you know. So yeah, so for me, I
couldn't wait to be done with it, to then head on and try, you
know, do music on my own, which I did. But
unfortunately I should've taken a break really because I
went into freefall after that you know, total mental and emotional
meltdown, for quite a number of years after that you know. Erm,
certainly went down to a bit of a wilderness really ya know, I think.
And:
When we heard that Ronan wanted
to take a bit of a break or whatever for the year, to me it felt that
there was no way he was coming back and especially if his career,
became successful, his solo career, which it did. I wasn't at all
shocked by no reunion happening you know, and this suited me too, you
know? For it not to happen, I didn't want to go back to it, I'd
had enough of it like for all of those years you know, I needed
something different, I needed to go on me own journey for a
while, ya know, both musically, and like socially or whatever.
